Fuel Refill:
- Ensure the lighter is nearly empty to prevent overfilling.
- Locate the fuel gage on the bottom of the lighter and turn it all the way down toward the minus symbol.

- Locate the flat-head screw on the bottom of the lighter.

- Remove the screw using a flat-head screwdriver, coin, or fingernail.

-
Using high quality butane, press the stem of the can directly into the lighter for short bursts. While pressing down, count to five and then release. Repeat this three to five times (or more depending on the fuel capacity of your lighter). Do not overfill.

- Reinstall the bottom screw.
- Allow the lighter to rest upright for about one minute.
- Set the fuel gauge to halfway between the minus and plus symbols, then ignite.
- Adjust the fuel gage to your preferred flame height.
Lighter Fluid:
We like high quality butane like Xikar or Newport Zero. Both will increase the lifespan of the lighter and make for a smoother lighting experience.
Flint Replacement:
- Locate the small slotted screw on the side of the lighter head.

- Unscrew and gently pull the spring-loaded rod out of the lighter.

- Remove any leftover expired flint.
- Insert a new im corona flint into the opening.
- Reinsert the spring-loaded rod and press firmly you are able to screw the rod back into the lighter.
Cleaning the Lighter:
To clean your IM Corona Old Boy, first ensure the lighter is empty and unlit.
Remove the flint and gently brush out any debris from the flint tube and striker wheel using a soft brush or compressed air.
Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth to maintain the finish.
If needed, use a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol to clean around the ignition area—avoiding the wick and fuel chamber.
Allow all parts to fully dry before reassembling and refueling.
Pro Tip:
If the wheel spins without sparks or the flame weakens, it’s typically time for fresh flint or more fuel.
Like many of the heirloom products we sell, your lighter will need occasional maintenance. In many ways, maintaining our lighters is as fulfilling as owning them. That being said, your lighter will require some basic knowledge of what and how things can go wrong and what to do about each issue if and when they occur.
If your lighter is having any sort of issues lighting, the culprit is generally one of the following issues.
Issue #1: Your lighter is not sparking.
Solution #1: Replace the flint. The process for doing so on these lighters is different from lighter to lighter, but usually there is an area you can unscrew that allows you to add flint to the lighter. Please ask if you need help finding it.
Issue #2: The lighter is sparking and producing a flame, but the flame instantly disappears or the flame is very small.
Solution #2: Your lighter likely needs more fuel. Refill it with butane until it feels noticeably heavier. As it nears full, you may see a slight sputter at the fill valve—this is a sign you’re close to overfilling.
If the lighter still isn’t performing properly, check the flame adjustment. The fuel gauge may be set too low. After refilling, gradually increase the gas output until the flame stabilizes.
Because most butane lighters don’t have a visible fuel window, learning when it’s properly filled takes a bit of experience. Over time, you’ll recognize the signs based on flame strength and consistency.
Issue #3: The lighter is sputtering.
Solution #4: You have either filled the lighter incorrectly, overfilled the lighter, or your gas is turned up too high. If turning the gas down does not solve the issue, try emptying the lighter completely (purging) and refilling it carefully according to the manufacturer's instructions. Be sure to use the best butane you a find. For recommendations on butane, check the product page of your lighter.
