Makers Cabinet Solid Brass Pencil Sharpener - Høvel

Sale price$109.00

A solid brass pencil sharpener from Makers Cabinet that shapes short, long, or flat points by hand without snapping the lead.

Out of stock

The Makers Cabinet Høvel turns a throwaway tool into one worth keeping: a solid brass pencil sharpener that shapes your point by hand rather than grinding it down.

Instead of twisting the pencil against a blade, you draw the blade along it, the way a woodworker uses a plane. That lets you cut a short point, a long tapered one, or even a flat chisel edge. Because the lead is never twisted, it is far less likely to snap, even with soft pastels and makeup pencils.

Solid brass gives it a satisfying weight in the hand, and over time it develops a warm patina all its own. A small tool that makes an everyday task feel deliberate.

  • Sharpens short, long, or flat points
  • Gentle on soft pencils, pastels, and makeup pencils
  • Replaceable carbon steel blades, 10-pack included
  • Weight: 130g

From Rich to Radiant

The Transformation of Brass Patina

Brass evolves beautifully over time, developing a rich patina that enhances its depth and character. As it reacts to air, moisture, and touch, its surface gradually shifts—deepening into warm golden hues, rich browns, or even hints of green and blue. Unlike materials that degrade, brass gains a lived-in elegance, with each mark and change telling a story of use and history. Through natural oxidation and handling, its finish becomes uniquely its own, embodying a timeless aesthetic that only grows more captivating with age.

Makers Cabinet

Odin Ardagh, Benjamin Weininger, and Noah Bier met as product design students at Central Saint Martins in London, and in 2017 they founded Makers Cabinet to push back against a stationery market built on throwaway tools. Their first idea was a simple one: rethink the way a pencil is sharpened. That idea became the Høvel. Since then, the studio has built a collection of solid brass instruments, each designed to be used for a lifetime and passed down, that turn drawing and writing into something closer to craft.
